New Camera

I ventured into Lenko Boutique (Flinders Lane) and found the cutest little camera ever, and couldn’t resist bringing it home with me.

Isn’t the bag awesome?

Introducing the new addition to the family, a White Slim Angel (also available in yellow and black)

I haven’t used it yet, still have to buy film, but oh I’m so excited. It promises breathtakingly vibrant images which I hope to decorate my bedroom wall with. Lenko also offers darling clothing and some very kitchy little items, so do go down and have a look! I also have my eye on the Holga 135 and the Blackbird Fly camera in red and the choco polaroid camera from next door. Hint hint anyone?

Zhang Jingna

I first came across Zhang Jingna aka Zemotion’s works on deviantart about four years ago. She was a young photographer residing in Singapore and producing achingly stunning and very graceful photographs.

At that time, photography to me was what other people were good at, something I couldn’t understand and probably wouldn’t be able to figure out. I wrote stories and I drew and I was pretty contented…but there was always this ‘what if’.

Then two years ago someone thoughtfully handed me a camera and I was drawn again into Jingna’s photography. I was inspired by how she used her work as her voice and it presented something that was better, something that was beautiful and possible out there. I was feeling lost at what I was doing and photography gave me a sense of purpose again, it brought smiles and dispelled the anxiety, the moroseness and sense of loneliness.

To this day Jingna remains one of my foremost inspirational person, both in career and life. She went out and did something she loved, no matter how scary or disheartening, with something I would have never considered to be possible for myself. She embodied the spirit of a young woman, one who is brave and true to herself, who works hard and is a success because of it, and every time she produces something new it strengthens my resolve to be as happy as I can and to keep on going.

Burberry Pre-Fall 2011

Burberry’s clean silhouettes are at the top of my list and this time they’ve switched from plaid to straight colors and some gorgeous materials. I can appreciate the art behind some top labels’ over the top designs but I absolutely love pieces I can include in my wardrobe (or dream of including anyway)- wearable, accessible, easy to mix. For example, those obi belts thrown in among several of Burberry’s outfits are simply divine!

Trenchcoats and knee length dresses are also another staple- perfect for Melbourne’s sometimes cool and sometimes mediocre weather, something great to jazz up a gray day.

I’m swooning over that red jacket, it’ll look fantastic post Christmas ;)

By the way, it was great when Emma Watson was face of the Burberry Campaign. She was perfect for it!

Pink for summer

Be very girly this coming hot summer in Melbourne- think light frocks, wrapped sandals and pretty patterns. What’s your style?

Shoes from Lipstick

The cardigan is perfect for the very random weather alternating between warm and cold. I even scored a new pair of wedges on sale in fuschia pink, great to shop in! Now…about those boots from Tony Bianco……

The Effervescent Courtenay B

It might have been a little more than a year ago when I met the dearest darling Courtenay when she bribed me with home baked cookies and instantly became my muse. It’s absolutely lovely to have a model arrive on set happy, bright, cheerful, full of personality and fully prepared, in fact she blew me away with her wardrobe prep (and her natural red hair). Every time we worked together I have the most fun and am pushed to bigger better things.

Our first shoot together is still one of my favourites. In fact the image above is the front cover of my print portfolio and is soon to grace my wall. Courtenay slips into character well, give her a word a sentence, an emotion or make her laugh and she dazzles in every image.

At one point we did a shoot at her home, where I met her very friendly poodle and awesome family and proceeded to dunk her in a tub full of water and goldfish.

To her credit however it wasn’t the most unusual thing we have done. Who have yet to see images from the Cephalopod story? A near 3kg, glutinous $60 pile of octopus was commandeered for a very intensely planned out beauty shoot. Thankfully it was bought frozen (unfortunately it had to be defrosted overnight and sure enough emitted a sort of lingering odour in the air). Courtenay sufficient to say was fabulous and proved her mettle by enduring the entire thing with a smile. One cannot get better than this.

Courtenay is also one of the most down to earth person I know, with a great sense of style and elegance. She is currently signed to Giant and I have a feeling she will go very far.
