London Fashion Week Fall 2012

London Fall Fashion Week sees a focus on jeweled tones particularly in shades of green and gold tones. Constructed skirts and jackets are a highlight with more comfortable open silhouettes. Top must haves include Burberry’s bird motif sweaters, Mulberry’s jeweled toned snake skin bag, and Williamson’s cut out dresses. Favourite is the simple chic and elegant outfits presented by Aquascutum.

SdV loves Barbara Palvin

This young Hungarian model is much touted for her baby face look, discovered in 2006 at the age of 13. She has recently scored the lucrative position as ambassador for L’oreal Paris and has been shot by the top names in the industry as well as walking for Prada, Chanel, Christopher Kane and Vivienne Westwood. With her luscious lips and bright blue eyes, I would love to have her in a beauty story!

New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

The second half of 2012 shows New York fall collections taking a trend for sharp clean tailoring, with a focus on pristine shapes and muted colours with a nod to British aristocratic masculinity. 1960s flapper silhouette still has a lingering hold with a brief flirt with fishtail skirts giving more of a womanly twist. Highlights include Derek Lam’s cable knits and leather pieces, Marc Jacob’s brilliant purple jacket and Proenza Schouler’s japanese inspired mini skirts. My favourite however is Donna Karan who’ve certainly made a strong comeback from recent years- her minimal but strong design with assents of origami should make a leading forecast for what’s to come in 2013.

Travel: Hong Kong 2012 2

Can’t visit somewhere new without tasting some of the food that is on offer. I’ve been led to believe that there is awesome food available in Hong Kong. Unfortunately….I don’t think I was able to sample any of it.

My dining companion at the Peak ordered a delicious looking burger which came with a side of plastic wrap. Ew.

Late dim-sum lunch at an exquisite restaurant……delightful…but we only get one dim sum each!

Breakfast…..probably not typical….but seriously who can pass up french toast with banana and praline?

Along with air yoghurt, bread basket and fresh brewed latte.

and CAKES.

Attempting to order lunch at a tai pai tong and failing dramatically.

So how about a notable chinese restaurant?

And finally, the sights

Travel: Hong Kong 2012

Hong Kong. I somewhat expected Hong Kong to be a gateway to China…..a modern city full of old world culture. Well I found a modern city, one filled with Fendi and Dior and Gaultier. A city filled with very very poor people and many newly rich wanting access to western objets du jour. Among the little laneways everything was big and larger than life. Nevertheless it is fascinating to explore, this place of conundrums.

Of course we made the obligatory trip to the Peak for a grand view over the entire city. The cable car was a riot and the view spectacular.
